Day 1, Flying Solo (with Many Helpers)

I can't really call yesterday my first day of flying solo, because I had help from Grandma (except for a few hours of work time), Faith (10-2), Cousin J & Karen (2 o'clock until 4). Still, it went relatively smoothly. Younger Bro is in a napping time, which is okay by all of us. We all need to adjust to an earlier schedule; we've been used to sleeping until 9 or 9:30, then going to sleep at midnight. Yesterday and today, most of us were awake before 7.

The Wife got absolutely pwned at work yesterday. It was a rough day for her, particularly considering that it was her first day teaching since before Christmas 2008. Being a substitute is difficult; subbing when the teacher's lesson plans have run out (somewhat unexpected surgery leading to two weeks out of school) and the students know it is even more difficult. Today will be better for her, I certainly hope. Today didn't start out too well, as she knocked my coffee over, giving herself a nice set of 2nd-degree burns on the way out the door. (Well, not really. I'm lying about that. The coffee didn't touch her.)

As for me, I enjoyed the day yesterday. That hour in the morning when YB went back to sleep and The Boy hadn't woken was absolute bliss. The Boy was in good form all day, doing lots of good playing, giving some great snuggles. The second highlight of the day was YB going down for a nap from 2:30 to 4:30 AND The Boy and I going down for a nap from 3 to 4:15. Any time both boys go down for a nap at the same time is absolute heaven.

Plus, it was nice meeting Faith, a friend of one of Grandma's friends. She was very nice, and The Boy absolutely enjoyed playing with her. And, Cousin J helped us straighten and organize stuff around the house.

We've decided, upon following The Boy's preferences, that we're going to start responding to "What can we get for him?" with "Pez dispensers." He loves the pez candy, and he loves the toys that hold the candy. Matter of fact, Grandma bought him Woody and Buzz pez dispensers, which was appropriate because he watched some of the move last weekend. After playing with the toys for a little while, he was absolutely captivated by the movie, "Toy Story," for most of last night. Time to bust out the superhero pez dispensers, so that The Boy can learn the important people (Spider Man, Batman, the rest of the Justice League, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man...).

Today is a quieter day - less people hanging out here. Mary Fran the nurse is taking blood for counts with Grandma, and Social Security is calling at 9 o'clock to discuss benefits for The Boy. There's apparently some sort of stipend that we can qualify for, that can help make our lives a little bit easier.
